Why play guitar for church?
I like playing guitar.
Because it’s powerful, it’s loud. I can express myself and other people will hear me what I have to say.
One thing about me is that I was a quiet kid growing up, but often not by choice. I think after years of bearing this label I’d been given, it’s refreshing to break that mold and have people see me for who I really am.
I play guitar mostly in church, and I love it. Would play in church all day if I could. Playing at church instilled in me a sense that my guitar playing is important. That somehow it matters when I go onstage for the umpteenth time and play to a crowd of sleepy faces every Sunday morning.
It’s important to me that people hear my guitar playing. Because the bigger sound I lift up, the more people can engage and be uplifted. And the more people are uplifted, the more my God gets the glory.
It’s important to me that I play songs for my God. I really only play for him and him alone. I want to inspire other people to join me in praising him, but if they don’t, that’s okay.
At the end of the day, I’m just a quiet guy playing guitar, expressing what I know to be true, and just, and beautiful.
